On February 19, 2021, the Rizal Quarry Academy, Inc. (RQAI) conducted its first meeting for the year 2021 at Café Siena in Antipolo City, Rizal. The said meeting was presided over by Mr. Dondi M. Sarmiento, OIC – Office of the Regional Director of the MGB IV-CALABARZON and also marked the incumbency of Ms. Angelita I. Lee as the new president of the RQAI.
Among the agenda of the meeting was the turn-over and updating of the RQAI official documents to the new President. It also presented the status of the RQAI fund utilization and collection as of the end of Calendar Year (CY) 2020. One of the highlights of the discussion is the proposed research project to be coursed through the RQAI which is the conduct of a comprehensive and scientific study by a credible third party preferably the Academe on the Sediment Source, Load and Transport Audit within the Marikina River Basin, to determine the factors that caused the inundation of low-lying areas in Rodriguez and San Mateo, Rizal including Marikina City.

The proposed activity is in compliance with the directive by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Director, to initiate the study wherein its research fund shall be sourced from the approved but unutilized allocations on the Development of Mining Technology and Geosciences (DMTG), a component under the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) for CY 2020 and 2021 of all quarry operators in Rizal Province.
Another board meeting was scheduled for the finalization and approval of funds for the said undertaking.
