A geological investigation and mineral canvassing activities were undertaken in the municipality of Buenavista, Quezon in connection to the Mineral Reservation Project being implemented in Region IV – CALABARZON. This activity is pursuant to the pertinent provisions of Section 2 of Republic Act (RA) No. 7942, otherwise known as the Philippine Mining Act of 1995 which states that potential and future mining areas with known strategic mineral reserves and resources shall be declared as Mineral Reservation for the development of strategic industries identified in the Philippine Development Plan and a National Industrialization Plan.

The project aims to search, assess, and evaluate areas with potential and/or possible mineralization. The project was initiated on August 2016 by a team headed by Senior Geologist Fidel R. Zepeda and Geologist II Patrick Joeffrey B. Gavino. This involved the preliminary study of geological characteristics as well as discovering the mineralization. This is the reconnaissance stage.

In line with this, a follow up operation and geologic survey were conducted in the last quarter of 2017 by a team also headed by Fidel R. Zepeda, Senior Geologist together with two Geologists, Byron V. Baldivicio and Nilo Lemuel J. Dolojan. This survey involved on-site inspection of the project site and vicinities, sampling of stream sediments and pan concentrates along active rivers and creeks. Moreover, active mining pits were also visited and representative samples were taken for laboratory analysis. This stage is the semi – detailed exploration of the area.
