The Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) in partnership with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Department of Environment and Natural Resources has successfully organized the 61st Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) held at CAP-John Hay Trade and Cultural Center, Baguio City from November 11-14, 2014.

With the theme “61 Years of Responsible Mining and Nation Building”, the four-day event gathered all mining stakeholders across the country to highlight the mineral industry’s advocacy on responsible mining and how it contributes positively to the growth of the country. ANMSEC 2014 featured various activities to celebrate the annual gathering of industry partners which include minerals industry symposium, community relations officers’ conference, mining exhibits, sports competition and mine safety competition.

It was highlighted by the Testimonial Dinner and Awards Night where exploration, mining and other related companies who exemplified outstanding performance and dedication in the promotion of environmental, community development and safety and health management during the past year were given the Presidential Mineral Industry Environment Award, the highest recognition the mining industry can give. Other awards were the Safest Mines and the Best Mining Forest Program.

Meanwhile MGB IV-A personnel actively participated in the different activities lined up during the 4-day ANMSEC. Four personnel from the Region who have undergone training on First Aid facilitated by Philippine Red Cross were chosen as among the judges during the First Aid and Fire Fighting Competition and the team from MGB IV-Pacific placed 7th among 22 competing teams in the bowling competition held at Baguio Centermall.

ANMSEC 2014 is supported by the Philippine Society of Mining Engineers, Society of Metallurgical Engineers of the Philippines, and Geological Society of the Philippines.
