The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region IV CALABARZON participated in the Gender Sensitivity and Gender Fair Language Webinar on June 27, 2022, in celebration of Pride Month where the LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual) celebrates across the globe. The webinar, conducted by the DENR Gender and Development Office, is an innovation toward the call for non-discrimination, equal social treatment, and equal rights from personal to professional arena.
The webinar commenced with the message from Dir. Elenida Basug, Director of Climate Change Service and Concurrent Director of Gender and Development Office. She mentioned that the pride flag with its rainbow colors signifies the values of diversity, inclusivity, life, healing, sunshine, nature, harmony, and spirit. Atty. Analiza Rebuelta-Teh, Undersecretary of Finance, Information System and Climate Change, and the Chairperson of DENR National Gender and Development Focal Point System encouraged the participants to reflect on how to take advantage of the different perspectives, mandates and accelerate the achievement of gender equality in social circles.
The webinar’s Resource Person, Jap Dariano Ignacio – Executive Director of Babaylanes, Inc., a non-profit organization mandated to capacitate Filipino LGBT youth, provide human rights education and organize campaigns and advocacy events has focused his discussion on SOGIESC (sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics), gender sensitivity, and fair language.
The webinar ended with a participative discussion among the participants and speaker that raised awareness and a better understanding of the LGBTQIA+ community’s voices, culture, and rights.
