The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region IV-A CALABARZON participated in the “Mineral Resource Management 2019 Capability Training-Seminar for MGB Embedded Personnel at the DENR PENRO and CENRO” on May 28-30, 2019 at the Hotel Lucky Chinatown, Binondo, Manila City. The three-day event was organized by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central Office to reorient and update the Embedded Technical Personnel in the Luzon Cluster with the policies and policy changes that are related to their responsibilities and duties.
The first day of the seminar was opened with welcoming remarks from Region IV-B MIMAROPA Regional Director Roland A. de Jesus. This was then followed by an opening message from Acting Assistant Director Atty. Danilo U. Uykieng, who reiterated the four core values of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)—these are: discipline, excellence, nobility and responsibility. In addition, he reminded the participants that a major part of their job is to take care of the concerns of the public and to comply with both the Provincial/Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO/CENRO) and Regional Office’s instructions. Atty. Uykieng was succeeded by Ms. Socorro C. Oquendo, who gave an overview of the MGB as an entity—from its mandate, functions, history, programs, plans and organizational outcomes. After that, a pre-test was conducted to assess the participants’ existing knowledge about the rest of the matters that were going to be tackled for the second and third days of the seminar.
The second day of the event started with a presentation about Mining Tenements by Mr. Larry M. Heradez followed by one about Mine Safety, Environment & Social Development Division (MSESDD) by Engr. Rodolfo L. Velasco Jr., Small-Scale Mining by Engr. Teodorico A. Sandoval, and lastly, Mineral Processing by Engr. Juancho Pablo S. Calvez. The day ended with a post-test to assess the participants’ learnings from the said lectures.
For the third day of the seminar, Mr. Antonio N. Apostol, Jr. started the series of presentations about Geology & Geohazard Mapping. He was followed by Atty. Josephine V. Sescon, who talked about Law Enforcement. An open forum was then conducted to clarify the participants’ other concerns—especially the ones not covered by the lectures. After a final post-test, the seminar was closed off with the Awarding of Certificates to the MGB Embedded Personnel.
