The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) IV CALABARZON, headed by RD Samuel T. Paragas, conducted the very first MGB IV CALABARZON Mining Summit 2019 on January 30 – 31, 2019 at the Hotel Rembrandt, Tomas Morato, Quezon City.
Highlights of the two-day summit include the review and discussion of MGB Memorandum Circular No. 2018 – 01; “Guidelines in the Conduct of Apprehension, Seizure, Confiscation, and Disposition of Illegally Sourced Minerals / Mineral Products and By-Products, Tools, Conveyances and Equipment,” and MGB Memorandum Circular No. 2018-02; “Guidelines for Compliance Monitoring and Rating / Scorecard of Mining Permits / Contracts” and the Major Programs and Operational Concerns of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau regarding Safety and Health, Environment, Social Development, and Tenements capped off the first day of the summit.
The second day of the summit commenced with the discussion of Region IV CALABARZON’s Operations’ Tenement, Safety and Health, Environment, and Social Development Compliance Monitoring and Rating/Scorecard Result conducted for CY 2018, followed by the discussion of Provincial Environmental Ordinance related to disposition of nuisance materials recovered incidental to Land Development in Rizal and presentation of Republic Cement and Building Materials, Inc. – Batangas and LafargeHolcim Aggregates, Inc., for the best practices in quarry operation and reforestation, respectively.
The summit concluded with the distribution of Certificates of Approval for Annual Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program, Annual Safety and Health Program, and Annual Social Development and Management Program for CY 2019.
