As part of its objective to disseminate the results of the geohazard mapping assessment up to the barangay level, the Geosciences Division of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region IV CALABARZON held an Information Education Campaign (IEC) on Geohazards for four (4) municipalities in Bondoc Peninsula. The said event was held at Eyns’ Hotel and Restaurant, Brgy. Madulao, Catanauan, Quezon from September 25-29, 2017 and was attended by representatives from Municipalities of Macalelon, Pitogo, General Luna, and Catanauan.

Different lectures on geohazards were presented by the MGB geologists starting with the background information on geohazard mapping, which was presented by Ms. Socorro P. Hernandez, OIC of the Geosciences Division. It was followed by a presentation on flooding hazard from Mr. Patrick Joeffrey B. Gavino and rain-induced landslide lecture by Ms. Ylah Jannei M. Cacho. Mr. Romali S. Umali then presented a quick overview about the different parts of geohazard map and how to appreciate it.

To put their new knowledge into use, a workshop on map-reading was conducted in the afternoon. Each barangay were given a sample map wherein they were asked to identify the hazards in their respective barangays. Then, a representative from each barangay was asked to present their findings on stage.

After the event, the participants were asked to evaluate the presenters. Afterwhich, tokens and certificates of participation were distributed to the participants along with geohazard maps. Overall, the event received a mostly positive feedback from the audience.

Participants were given sample maps, rulers, and questionnaires to answer during the workshop part. MGB IV staff showed them the proper use of these maps and how to read different symbols on the map.
