The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region (MGB) IV CALABARZON shared its knowledge about its responsibilities as a government agency as well as its technological advancements. On November 5, 2019, students from the National Teachers College visited the MGB office to see how the office operates and the equipment that the technical personnel use during fieldwork. Romali S. Umali, Chief of the Geohazard and Engineering Geology Section of the Geosciences Division, together with geologists Patrick B. Gavino and Michael Angelo M. Escober, lectured about the principles behind each instrument shown along with their respective functions. Among these instruments are the following:
Instrument | Function |
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) | To detect subsurface structures |
Georesistivity Meter | To determine the resistance of a material to electricity and locate underground water |
Global Positioning System (GPS) Handle | To determine the exact location/coordinates |
Drone | For remote aerial surveillance, monitoring and photography/videography |
The activity is in line with the MGB’s goal to spread awareness and information about geology and the mining industry.
