An Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign was conducted by the Geosciences Division (GSD) and Mine Management Division (MMD) of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. IV CALABARZON last June 25-29, 2018 at three municipalities in Bondoc Peninsula, Quezon Province specifically, Catanauan, Mulanay and San Francisco. The main objective of the seminar is to provide information to certain key government offices (e.g. PNP, BFP, MDRRMO, DepEd, LGUs) on “Understanding Risk Exposure Maps”. For supplementary use, maps, posters, pamphlets and CDs were given away

The first day of the IEC was held in Mulanay, Quezon. The event started with the welcome remarks by Mayor Hon. Joselito A. Ojeda. Following the opening remarks, OIC of the Geosciences Division, Mrs. Socorro Hernandez discussed the flow of the presentations and introduced the participants to Hazard Maps and Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (VRA). Terms and procedure on making maps were then explained by Geologist II Ms. Danica Guinto. She then presented the VRA maps to the participants. The last lecture is about introduction to mining presented by Engr. Jose Mari Bungalan After that lecture was the round table discussion. Lastly, the event was concluded by Mr. Isidro M. Fuerte, Sangguniang Bayan Member, Committee on Public Safety.

The second day of the IEC was held at the Municipal Hall of Catanauan last June 27, 2018. Using the same format as that of Mulanay, Quezon, the event was commenced by the mayor, Hon. Almira Orfanel. Following is the introduction to hazard maps and VRA by Geologist Randolp Ascaño. Terms and procedure were then discussed by Geologist II Ms. Danica Guinto. Geologist II Mr. Patrick Gavino then presented Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (VRA) maps. Lastly, the introduction to mining was discussed by Engr. Jose Mari Bungalan. After all the lectures, everyone joined a round table discussion to clear up some questions and offer suggestions among themselves. The event was concluded then by Mr. Hon. Antonio A. Avila, Committee on Disaster and Environment Catanauan, Quezon Province.

The third and last day of the IEC was held in San Francisco, Quezon. Twenty-eight (28) participants from key government offices of San Francisco, Quezon attended the even. The flow of the event is similar to that of Mulanay and Catanauan except for some slight diversion from the usual program. Due to some work complications, Engr. Jose Mari Bungalan have to come back home earlier than the rest of the team. So after the opening remarks by Mayor Hon. Ernani C. Tan, Engr. Jose Bungalan immediately started the lecture about introduction to mining. Consequently, the OIC of the Geosciences Division, Mrs. Socorro Hernandez introduced hazard and VRA maps. Geologist II Ms. Danica Guinto then explained certain terms and procedure in making VRA maps. The last lecture was presented by Geologist II Mr. Patrick Gavino.
