The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region IV CALABARZON conducted a series of Information Education Campaign (IEC) and Workshop on Geohazards last April 2017, which  was held at AA’s Place Hotel and Restaurant in Infanta, Quezon and involved eight (8) municipalities of Quezon Province.

From April 5-7, municipal and barangay officials from the Municipalities of Infanta, Real, and Gen. Nakar participated in the said IEC. Representatives from the Municipalities of Polillo, Panukulan, Patnanungan, Burdeos, and Jomalig then attended on April 18-20.

In behalf of the Municipality of Infanta, Hon. Marlon Potes of the Sangguniang Bayan welcomed the participants to the municipality.

The event aims to share with the municipal and barangay officials the results of MGB’s Geohazard Assessment of their respective areas. Lectures on different kinds of geological hazards like flood, rain-induced landslide, and coastal geohazards were also conducted. An open forum was also part of the program, in which the participants raised their questions and concerns regarding different kinds of hazards in their areas.

Ms. Ma. Celi V. Kennedy, one of the senior geologists of MGB IV CALABARZON, discussed the background information on geohazards and MGB’s geohazard mapping program.

Moreover, basic map-reading lecture and workshop were conducted to train the participants on how to use MGB’s Geohazard Maps, which were distributed to each barangays to serve as their guide in  proper planning and disaster preparation. Pamphlets and posters on landslide and flooding and disaster kits were also handed out to the participants.

Aside from the maps, other materials like posters, pamphlets, and disaster kits were also distributed.
