The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region IV CALABARZON conducted a series of Information Education Campaign (IEC) and Workshop on Understanding Risk Exposure Maps.

On October 25, MGB IV geologists with some support staff went to the Municipality of Unisan. Vice mayor Danilo Suarez, Jr. welcomed the participants to the event and encouraged them to be proactive in the seminar, make the most out of it to learn about geological hazards and risk assessment, and use its applications on planning for the municipality.

On October 29-31, the IEC team conducted the event simultaneously on five (5) municipalities and cities, namely, Lucena City, Municipalities of Sariaya and Agdangan in Quezon Province; Municipality of Taysan in Batangas Province, and Tagaytay City in Cavite Province.

The said MGB IV personnel started the event by giving an overview of geological hazards. It was then followed by discussing the methodology of conducting risk assessment and how risk exposure maps are generated. These municipal risk maps were then explained in detail and copies were distributed at the end of the program.

Aside from the risk exposure maps and accompanying reports, MGB IV also distributed flood and landslide posters and pamphlets, disaster kits, and CDs of geohazard materials and information.
