Following the recently conducted IEC Campaign for Batangas Quarry Operators, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) IV CALABARZON conducted another Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Campaign for Laguna Quarry Operators on February 23, 2021 at the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office CALABARZON,
The event, focused on the Salient Provisions of the Republic Act No. 7942, otherwise known as the “Philippine Mining Act of 1995,” and its Implementing Rules and Regulations, was conducted in cooperation with the Provincial Government – Environment and Natural Resources Office of Laguna. Representatives of quarry operations in Laguna attended the IEC event.
Engr. Edgardo D. Castillo, OIC of the Mine Management Division discussed the various regulations on mine permitting and tenement processing especially on permits issued by the Provincial Government thru the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board. He expounded on the taxes derived from the Mining Industry as well as areas closed to Mining Applications. In addition, Engr. Mark Anthony C. Perez from the Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division explained the environmental provisions of the Mining Act, especially the various environmental work programs and corresponding funds that the Permit Holders need to establish in order to guarantee an environmentally responsible quarry operation. Engr. Perez emphasized the need to create the Multipartite Monitoring Team to monitor the compliance by the Permit Holders with their Annual Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programs and to various environmental laws and regulations.
