A webinar hosted by NDRMMC entitled “Not Business as Usual: Increasing the Capacity of MSMEs and Cooperatives” was held last September 7, 2021. NDRRMC invited resource speakers from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), and from private organizations i.e., Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation Incorporated and the Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies (ARISE).

The speaker from DTI and the private sectors discussed the importance of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to the country’s economy, stating that 99.51% of the businesses in the Philippines are MSMEs. This translates to the volume of workers dependent on these businesses. To have business continuity, these workers or individuals therefore should know the basic of disaster preparedness, including the pandemic situation that is now being experienced worldwide.

The representative from CDA also shared the roles of Cooperatives in their respective communities. Cooperatives established their own Emergency Response Team that also do volunteer work in the community and advocates emergency preparedness thru education, training, and information.
