Last February 1 to 7, 2018, geologists from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) – Regional Office No. IV CALABARZON attended the Geoscience Workshop held at Patio de San Jose, Malilipot, Albay. The Geoscience Workshop is an annual event of MGB wherein representatives of the Geoscience Division from the central and regional offices discuss the accomplishments, issues, and concerns encountered for the past calendar year. This year’s workshop was hosted by MGB Regional Office No. V led by their Director, Engr. Guillermo A. Molina Jr. The National Geologic Quadrangle Mapping Program took up the bulk of the 6-day workshop as it consumed nearly half of the entire program. The allotted time was spent for the harmonization and finalization of adjacent 1:50,000 Geological Maps of Regions CALABARZON and Bicol, as well as the standardization and normalization of field mapping methodologies. The remaining days were used in the presentation of accomplishments, and implementation of targets of several programs, namely: Vulnerability Risk Assessment (VRA) and updating of geohazard maps, VRA- IEC, Groundwater Resource Assessment, Subsidence Hazard, and Mineral Reservation Programs.
