The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) IV CALABARZON in collaboration with Rizal Quarry Academy, Inc. (RQAI), conducted a two-day Mine Safety, First Aid, and Basic Life Support Training and DOLE Mandatory 8-hour Occupational Safety & Health Seminar on November 19 to 20, 2020 at Café Siena in Antipolo City, Rizal.
Thirty (30) participants from the Rizal quarry operations (Mineral Processing and Quarry Permit Holders) attended the said event. The welcome remarks and inspirational message given by Ms. Angelita I. Lee, President, RQAI, and Mr. Dondi M. Sarmiento, Chief, Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division, MGB IV CALABARZON marked the beginning of the training-seminar.
The first day covers the lecture on the DOLE Mandatory 8-hour Occupational Safety & Health Seminar by Engr. Alvin T. Bañaga, a DOLE Accredited Occupational Safety & Health Practitioner. The discussion consists of six modules which are:
- Introduction to Occupational Safety and Health (OSH);
- General Concept of OSH;
- Recognizing Hazards and Controls;
- Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Control;
- Emergency Preparedness, and
- Compliance to Administrative OSH Requirements.
The lecture ended with an exercise wherein participants were directed to provide situations and hazards that may likely to happen in their respective operations and the possible measures that could be done in order to prevent/eliminate the identified hazards.
On the second day of the event, Ms. Shandie Grace Villaruz, Health Program Officer of the Department of Health, lectured on First Aid and Basic Life Support. Demonstrations on basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) were conducted including the use of the Ambu Bag in performing CPR, and demos on basic bandaging techniques.
The event ended with the distribution of Certificates to the participants and the closing remarks by Mr. Teofilo T. Salcedo, Administrator of RQAI.
