In an effort to strengthen the coordination between government instrumentalities relative to national security, particularly on intelligence collection, counterintelligence and anti-terrorism measures in the CALABARZON Region, the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) Regional Office No. IV-CALABARZON conducted a Security Awareness Seminar on 10-11 March 2022 for the personnel of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Regional Office No. IV-CALABARZON.

Mr. Hermingildo P. Novero, Counterintelligence Officer of NICA IV-A, provided an introduction to the different types of security, i.e., document and information security, and discussed the salient provisions of Executive Order No. 608, s. 2007 re: ESTABLISHING A NATIONAL SECURITY CLEARANCE SYSTEM FOR GOVERNMENT PERSONNEL WITH ACCESS TO CLASSIFIED MATTERS AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES, emphasizing on handling and having access on classified matters and the process of securing Security Clearances.

NICA IV-A Regional Director Rufino C. Mendoza also discussed the principles and importance of intelligence, and the Intelligence Cycle – from planning, sourcing and processing of information, analysis and intelligence generation, to distribution to targeted users and/or policy/decision makers. He also imparted several tips on individual safety and security of personnel when it involves compromise to personal safety and asked on which information from MGB are determined as confidential and classified information. Both agencies exchanged inputs in the said seminar.

The seminar imparted better understanding on the handling and protection of crucial and sensitive information to the participants and will contribute on the better success in its application to environmental and anti-illegal mining operations in the region.
