The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region IV-A had successfully conducted the 1st Mine Rehabilitation Fund Committee (MRFC) Summit at Graceland Estates and Country Club in Tayabas City on January 21-22, 2015. The event was participated by the members of the MRFCs for CALABARZON mining operations led by its over-all Chairman and MGB IV-A Regional Director Samuel T. Paragas together with DENR Regional Director and Co-Chairman Reynulfo A. Juan.

 The two-day summit was highlighted by the conduct of a workshop pertaining to the standardization of monitoring parameters, target activities/indicators and other relevant inputs on the companies’ respective Annual Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (AEPEP) matrix of activities and the final review by the MRFCs of the submitted AEPEP documents to better guide the Multipartite Monitoring Teams (MMTs) on how to effectively monitor the different companies’ environmental protection performance thru a cohesive and comprehensive document. An Ideal AEPEP format for each type of mining operation, i.e., Quarry and Cement Manufacturing Plant, Quarry and Crushing Plant, Industrial Sand and Gravel Quarry operations and Mineral Processing Plant Operations was also presented.  Meanwhile, Solid Cement Corporation/CEMEX and Lafarge Aggregates, Incorporated, Platinum and Titanium Awardees, respectively, during the 2014 Annual Mines Safety and Environment Conference in Baguio City, presented their Best Mining and Environmental Management Practices during the event.

 Finally, the workshop ended on the approval of the CY 2015 AEPEPs of the various mining companies and the signing of Certificates of Approval by Regional Director Samuel T. Paragas.

  Historic Summit

10949709_10205899452828893_2114541797566490303_n The event marked the first time MGB IV-A gathered all the mining stakeholders in CALABARZON to discuss and share relevant experiences on the formulation and implementation of AEPEP matrix of activities to better guide the Multipartite Monitoring Teams in monitoring various mining companies in the region. The idea of holding a summit was hatched as early as 3rd quarter of CY 2014 where it aimed to introduce a unified and comprehensive approach on how the MMT conduct its monitoring as well as the approval of all AEPEP documents in January prior to the conduct of monitoring activities       throughout the year.
