RD Samuel T. Paragas, Regional Director of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau – Regional Office No. IV-A (MGB IV-A) recently issued an Order of Deputation to eight (8) officials/personnel of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Environmental Crime Division, to apprehend offenders and confiscate illegally-sourced minerals including the tools/equipment/ conveyances used in the commission of the offense. Prior to their deputation, an initial meeting was conducted on August 28, 2015 in the presence of RD Paragas and said officials were briefed on the mining policies, rules and regulations and on apprehension procedure. The deputation-seminar headed by Engr. Emilio Ramos, OIC- Mine Management Division and Ms. Ma. Lourdes O. Griarte, Legal Staff, was held on September 7, 2015 at the MGB IV-A Conference Room. Engr. Erwin Bautista discussed and presented in powerpoint the pertinent provisions of DAO 2010-21, the Implementing Rules and Regulations of R.A. 7942 otherwise known as the “Philippine Mining Act of 1995”. The discussion was focused on the stages of mining and mining permits issued by the National Government and the Local Government Units (LGU’s) through the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board (PMRB).
Engr. Krizia Ann Alberto discussed the main topic on proper apprehension of offenders and confiscation/seizure of illegally-sourced minerals including the tools/equipment/ conveyances used in the commission of the offense. The deputized NBI officials/personnel committed to assist MGB Regional Office No. IV-A to curb illegal mining/quarrying activities within Region IV-A (CALABARZON).
