With the theme, “Minerals-based Industrialization: Key to Philippine Economic Progress”, the Philippine Society of Mining Engineers (PSEM) conducted the Mining Engineer’s Convention (MinECon) 2018. Members of PSEM all over the country gathered for the 5th MinECon, hosted by the Philippine Society of Mining Engineers – Caraga Chapter (PSEM-Caraga), on June 14 – 16, 2018 at the Philippine Gateway Hotel, Surigao City.

Five representatives from Mines and Geosciences IV CALABARZON, headed by RD Samuel T. Paragas participated in the three-day convention, which composed of sports tournaments, mining symposium, exhibits of the different mining equipment suppliers and mining companies in the country, technical symposium and the General Assembly of Mining Engineers. It was attended by various mining industry representatives, stakeholders, mining service representatives, stakeholders and mining engineers throughout the country. Various technical papers were presented covering the metallic and non-metallic industries, the energy sector, the construction industry and the issues affecting mining, as a whole. Representatives from different companies and agencies shared their innovations and cutting edge technology for the development of the mining industry.

The event’s theme, “Minerals-based Industrialization: Key to Philippine Economic Progress” highlights the importance of mining in the development of our country. Also, the new set of PSEM officers for CY 2018 – 2020 were elected during the Mining Engineer’s Convention and General Assembly.

The MinECon is a biennial gathering of mining engineers in the Philippines. It started on 2010 in Davao City.
