The Mines and Geosciences Bureau IV CALABARZON (MGB IV CALABARZON) conducted a Mine Safety and First Aid Training for all Local Government Unit (LGU)-issued permit holders in San Mateo and Rodriguez, Rizal on June 27 to 28, 2019. The said event was organized in cooperation with Montalban Aggregate Producers Association (MAPA) and was held in the Montalban Kitchenette, Rodriguez, Rizal. It was conducted to have the participating permit holders comply with the requirement of having their representatives undergo through mine safety training at least once a year.
The two-day event was organized by the Mine Safety and Health Section of the Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division (MSESDD). The first part included giving the participants a refresher on the rules and regulations on Mine Safety and Health as stipulated in Chapter XV of the DENR Administrative Order (DAO) 2010-21—also known as the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Republic Act (RA) 7942, otherwise known as the “Philippine Mining Act of 1995”. Afterwards another refresher was given about Section 142 of the said Order, where it stated that the responsibility of the permittees, lessees or permit holders, and service contractors was to strictly comply with the rules and regulations embodied under the DAO 2000-98, otherwise known as the “Mine Safety and Health Standards”. The required manpower, facilities and documents for Safety in the monitoring checklist in Integrated Safety, Health, and Social (ISHES) Validations were later discussed.
Basic First Aid Training then followed. Bandaging and Life Support techniques were among the highlights of this part of the seminar, where a discussion, demonstration and hands-on activity about Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) were done.
With about 30 representatives from all companies in San Mateo and Rodriguez, Rizal, the event achieved its objective to ensure that there would be knowledgeable employees in each company of the First Aid techniques in times of need such as accidents and injuries. Furthermore, the said employees would contribute in their respective units to be compliant with the safety standards of the country.
