In line with the 2021 Women’s Month Celebration, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau IV CALABARZON conducted a two (2) – day Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign on Gender and Development (GAD) entitled “We Make Change Work for Women” Juana: Mga Dapat Alamin on July 22-23, 2021. Lectures/workshop on Gender Sensitivity and topics regarding 2-year Community Development Program (CDP)/Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) and the proposed 2-year CDP of the company and Geohazard were conducted.
The seminar was organized in coordination with Asturias Industries, Inc. (Asturias) located in Calatagan, Batangas. Attendees of said event were men, women, Senior Citizens, and members of the LGBTQ community of the host and neighboring communities which are also the recipient of the 2-year CDP of Asturias
With today’s growing advocacy for equality, the seminar aimed to educate the community on the basic concepts relating to GAD, such as the difference between gender and sex, gender needs and gender mainstreaming, non-discriminatory and pro-gender equality, and equity measures to enable women’s participation in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of policies.
Mr. Alfred Palencia, Planning Officer of MGB IV, was the resource speaker for Gender Sensitivity. He pointed out that activities relating gender and development need not involve only women. He mentioned that these programs are aimed to address the unequal structures today. Ms. Danica Guinto, Senior Geologist of MGB IV, then discussed an overview on Geological Hazards – flood, rain-induced landslide, and coastal geohazards. She then discussed the methodology in conducting risk assessment and how risk exposure maps are generated. Last to discuss was Engr. Anissa Madi, Science Research Specialist II of MGB IV, who discussed the 2-year CDP/SDMP Salient Points of Section 134 of DAO 2010-21.
The event ended with the open forum wherein the participants engaged in a dynamic discussion following the distribution of IEC Materials from MGB IV.
