In line with the goal of the DENR and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau to combat indiscriminate and illegal quarrying activities, Regional Director Samuel T. Paragas has issued Deputation Orders in five municipalities in Quezon Province. This resulted to 155 individuals being deputized; Calauag having the most number of individuals deputized with 55, followed by Buenavista with 51, then Nakar with 23, Sariaya with 17, and lastly Infanta with 9. Moreover, 13 of the 155 are members of the Philippine National Police.

As provided under Sec. 118 of DAO 2010-21, the Consolidated Implementing Rules and Regulations of R.A. 7942, otherwise known as the “Philippine Mining Act of 1995,” the individuals authorized to execute illegal mining apprehensions and confiscation/seizure of illegally-sourced minerals are the Bureau officers which include the Regional Director and other Bureau personnel, duly authorized by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Director, DENR personnel duly authorized by the DENR Secretary, Permittee, Contractor, Permit Holder and other duly deputized personnel. Deputation of members of the Local Government Units and members of the Philippine National Police significantly aids the Bureau to effectively and efficiently implement Republic Act No. 7942, also known as the “Philippine Mining Act of 1995”, and its implementing rules and regulations.
Prior to the issuance of an Order of Deputation, an orientation was conducted by MGB – IVA on the proper apprehension/confiscation procedures of illegally-sourced minerals/mineral products including tool/s, equipment, and conveyances used in the commission of the offense.
