The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region IV CALABARZON received a Plaque of Recognition in the 21st Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan) CALABARZON Regional Awarding and NDRM (National Disaster Resilience Month) Culmination 2019 on August 22, 2019 at The Monochrome, Santa Rosa City, Laguna. The award was received by the MGB IV Geosciences Division Chief Socorro Hernandez.
Organized by the National Disaster & Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), the Gawad KALASAG is an annual awarding for exceptional contribution in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) and humanitarian assistance. Its goal is to advance awareness in the best practices in DRRM, as well as benevolent responses and actions. Since the Philippines is prone to disasters brought on by various calamities both natural and human-induced, NDRRMC aims to recognize those individuals, groups and agencies that have shown extraordinary courage, responsiveness and perceptiveness in times of these emergencies.
For every mining permit holder, one of the duties and responsibilities of the employer is to prepare an emergency response preparedness program for reasonable, foreseeable industrial and natural disasters pursuant to DENR Administrative Order (DAO) No. 2000-98, otherwise known as the Mine Safety and Health Standards. With this, as the regulatory sector of the mining industry, the MGB is vigilant and always ready to assist these permit holders and others who are in mining areas to make the said industry safer and more productive for the nation.
