In a latest surveillance and investigation of the National Bureau of Investigation – Environmental Crime Division in coordination with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau IV-A of the DENR, 5 individuals were arrested for illegal quarrying in certain area in Agoncillo, Batangas.
NBI operatives identified the arrested individuals as Armando Dela Pena, Norberto Cabrera, Tomas Reyes, Wiene Magpantay, and Benedicto Atienza.
The 5 individuals were spotted quarrying sand materials in a portion of land which is inside the Taal Volcano Protected Landscape. Said materials are used for construction purposes.
The 5 apprehended individuals were brought to the NBI Office – Taft Manila for inquest and filing of charges in the DOJ. Meanwhile, the confiscated minerals and one hauling trucks were duly turned-over to the Office of the Barangay of Subic ibaba in Agoncillo, Batangas.
The operation was commenced due to several complaints from different agencies and affected communities within the barangay and as per instruction from the MGB Central Office to counter-act illegal activities within the areas of Agoncillo.
Areas previously excavated by the illegal miners in the area of a Protected Landscape
