The MGB Regional Office IV CALABARZON’s Geosciences Division hosted the geoscience workshop for this year that was held at the Lima Park Hotel in Malvar, Batangas on January 16 to 21, 2017. This is the first time that a regional office has solely hosted such an event. The geoscience workshop is an annual event of the Bureau wherein representatives from each of the regional offices and the central office discuss their accomplishments for the previous year and the issues and difficulties they encountered. Its aim is to standardize the procedures for the different targets of the Bureau such as the Vulnerability Risk Assessment (VRA) and the Information Education Campaign (IEC).

The event kicked-off with the welcoming remarks from the Office’s Geosciences Division OIC, Ms. Socorro P. Hernandez, followed by the keynote speech of the Office’s Director, Engr. Samuel T. Paragas. After that, the rest of the day was allotted for the Geologic Quadrangle Mapping. The second day was allotted for the VRA and the presentations from the Central Office’s Lands Geological Information Management Section. The third day was allotted solely for Hydrogeology. The fourth day was for the Mineral Reservation accomplishments, targets, and issues. The last day was allotted for the Subsidence Mapping and the IEC. The last day ended with the lottery for the next host and the ending remarks from the chief of the Metallurgical Technology Division, Engr. Juancho Pablo Calvez. The winner of the lottery and next host of the Geosciences Workshop is Region 12. The event concluded without any major problems and was overall a success.
